International Solidarity Projects

International solidarity projects are experiences that allow participants to get actively involved with a local association by helping to carry out their project through concrete international solidarity activities and work (renovation, construction of a literacy centre, environmental protection, social and cultural activities, etc.). Participants are integrated into the local community, live in a community setting and take part in local life.
Open to everyone aged 15 and over (subject to conditions) with no age limit or specific skills required, these international solidarity projects generally last two to three weeks. The approach varies from country to country and opportunities depend on the needs of our international partners (Togo, Ivory Coast, Nepal, Lebanon, Peru, etc.). Participants are responsible for their own expenses, but AMSED provides guidance and support in self-financing.

What are the objectives of the international solidarity project?

  • Participate in community service activities
  • Facilitate intercultural learning and create positive change for local communities
  • Discover cultural, social and economic realities through real immersion in the host country’s society
  • Discover community life, strengthen your independence and self-confidence
  • Flourish through personal and technical learning
  • Strengthen your project management and self-financing skills with the support of AMSED
  • Develop key skills for your personal and professional life and promote them
  • Strengthen your civic engagement

AMSED supports participants throughout the project. It prepares participants (individual interviews, logistical and administrative preparation, pre-departure weekend, etc.) and helps them make the most of their experience upon their return (skills assessment and sharing at local events).
Work camp opportunities are posted on AMSED’s social media accounts.

International sponsorship

AMSED is a sponsor association authorised by Fonjep. It supports associations in carrying out collective exchange and solidarity projects led by young people in conjunction with a foreign association. This support is provided within the framework of the ‘Youth and International Solidarity’ (JSI) and ‘City, Life, Holidays and International Solidarity’ (VVV-SI) funding programmes financed by Fonjep, the Youth and Popular Education Cooperation Fund.

These JSI and VVV-SI programmes enable young French people (aged 15 to 25) and young people from partner countries (countries eligible for official development assistance) to meet, exchange ideas and work together through collective and solidarity-based activities lasting around 15 days.

As a sponsoring association, AMSED supports and assists young people and the association leading the project in:

  • Co-developing the project with the foreign association
  • The Fonjep funding application process
  • Preparing for departure
  • Writing the report
  • Sharing and disseminating the results

Some examples of projects supported:

In April 2025, AMSED supported the Pflix’lab association at the agricultural college in Wintzenheim and its students in their community project. They exchanged agroecological techniques (bio-repellents, composting, etc.) as part of a co-development and agroecology promotion initiative.

In July 2024, AMSED supported the Campus Colmar association and its young people in their international and intercultural solidarity exchange project between young French and Togolese people. In particular, they renovated three classrooms and built an access ramp for people with reduced mobility.

This project is co-funded by the European Social Fund as part of the ESF+ national programme ‘Employment, Inclusion, Youth and Skills’ 2021/2027.

Funded by the European Union.
